In the first year when Civil Partnerships came into effect, 18,059 were held across the country.  Additionally more men (66%) held a Civil Partnership than women.

The most popular areas in which to form a civil partnership up to the end of 2006 were Greater Manchester Metropolitan County with Brighton and Hove in second place, closely followed by the London Borough of Westminster.
